 South oil company one of the major fundamental formations of Iraqi national oil company (INOC) ,it's the first nucleus and the basic of national direct investment projects in the seventies ,where the SOC was subsidiary to national company .Events and activities have escalated steadily and rapidly rising since the beginning of the seventies where investment and development stages of the north Rumaila field were completed,in three stages lead to rates production (42)million tons per year ,coincided with the expansion of works in all fields ,the expansion began with drilling works ,building and expanding production facilities and implementing investment projects associated with natural gas field in north and south Rumaila ,also developing new fields in Luhais , Saba , Nuhran Ben Ummer and oil fields in Maysan , lay out exporting pipe line , expanding export facilities , infrastructure sites for the company . Coupled with provisional of service, housing and health care to company's staff, and achieve ambitious plans in fields of rehabilitation, development and creating institutes and centers for training, technical and administrative development. During the mid – seventies decree to nationalize the Basra oil company (BPC),also activities of Erab company in Maysan attachment to the oil operation and establishment to the national oil company ,the SOC classified as first company in Iraq and the eighth in production rating for global oil companies . The company activities were covered an area of geographical limits of their effectiveness (180)th/m² stretching from the Arabic Gulf to Hadeth .During the seventies period the maximum rates production from the south fields (2.75) million barrels /day ,and the plans were designed to reach the limits of (4) million barrels /day. The SOC was exposed to substantial damage during the war (1991), that effect on production level to reach the rate of (2) million barrels /day, before the events of the year (2003) .After the events of the year (2003) The whole fields ,establishments and facilities of the company were damaged, caused by vandalism , theft ,arson and destruction , The destruction ratio ( 80-90 %) of the SOC belongings ,All that reasons lead to production not exceeding (150)thousand barrels/day. The extensive and intensive reconstruction company managed the company through its cadre and potential self-board to its production stages in which Soc able to achieve the production rate of (500) thousand barrels / day during the month of June the same year . Then export the first shipment of oil from the company 's port during the same month. Creating efforts from staff of company was able to bid during a period not exceed year to re-set the previous best of terms reached production capacity during the first quarter of the year (2004) to (2.15) million barrels / day.
