           UNIFIED HEALTH SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT POLICY

Health, Safety, and Environment is a shared responsibility of all parties , the upstream sector (Ministry of  Oil) undertakes to adhere to and consider them as principal values in performing all of its activities , and to achieve that, upstream companies ensure:

1.Complying and committing with the legislations (laws, regulations and instructions) in force in the Republic of Iraq, leveraging the best relevant international standards and measures to preserve Health, Safety, and Environment.

 

2. Obliging all contactors to adopt this policy in the aspects of preserving Health, Safety, and Environment.

 

3.Securing the safety of personnel during the implementation of their activities by using special safety equipments, in accordance with international standards, besides protecting public properties from damages and reduce its effects on the environment of surrounding and climate changes, along with protecting biodiversity, reserves, and surrounding communities and ensure sustainable development for them regardless of geographical location of the work activities.

 

4.   Providing secure designs  and proper maintenance for the work locations, equipments, operating systems, and their working procedures, as well as making sure to rectify the deficiencies and non_compliances to be identified through audits, inspections and periodic evaluation activities .

 

5. Continuing to improve the performance of Health, Safety, and Environment measures by using risk analysis programs, proper planning and provision of the necessary ingredients for all works to suit the level of petroleum industry, reviewing the objectives and the programs to improve Health, Safety, and Environment periodically by evaluating their implementation and applying the necessary corrections.

 

6.  Using the up to date techniques and environmental measures to control and reduce emissions and discharge of all wastes and residues from  upstream activities, regardless of geographical locations of work activities  .

 

7. Adopting advance and precautionary steps with view to preserving Health, Safety, and Environment by adopting an emergency plan(Crisis Management Plan) to be  updated periodically, includes all human resources and required equipments for controlling the emergencies, and training the personnel to implement this plan in case of accidents, oil spills and fires, besides controlling the pollution on water, air and soil .

 

8.  Adopting transparency principles and dialogue with others and referring the required reports, in public, to the competent authorities, civil society, all levels of management, supervisors, and employees about the progress of their work and implications of their activities on individuals and surroundings .

 

9.  Enable all staff and contractors to stop any action to be considered unsafe, or not in accordance with the policies and procedures to preserve Health, Safety, and Environment, if deemed necessary to maintain public interest.

 

10.  Committing to the implementation of the Uniform Reporting System (URS) related to Health, Safety, and Environment aspects.

 

11.  Committing to train and develop workers to promote a culture of Health, Safety, and Environment and raising awareness for all employees at all levels to ensure maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
